How do I measure my dog before choosing a dog bike trailer?
Measure your dog’s sitting height and consider how much space it needs when lying down. Let the dog sit naturally and measure from the floor to the highest point of its head. Also check the dog’s body length and width while it is lying down. The dog should be able to sit or lie comfortably without feeling cramped, but the trailer should not be unnecessarily large, as the correct size provides better stability.

Is a dog bed included when I buy the dog bike trailer?
No, the dog bed is sold separately for Milou S, Pluto M and Pluto L. The trailer can be used without a dog bed, but a fitted bed provides a softer and more stable surface. A familiar blanket can also help the dog feel secure while getting used to the trailer, as long as it lies flat and cannot come into contact with the wheels or other moving parts

Can I use a Hamax dog bike trailer with an electric bike?
Yes, Milou and Pluto can be used with an electric bike that is suitable and approved for towing a bike trailer. Follow the bicycle manufacturer’s instructions and local regulations. The additional weight increases the braking distance, and an electric bike can quickly reach a speed that is too high for the dog and the trailer. Start slowly and practise with a load in a traffic-free, safe area.

Can Hamax dog bike trailers be used to transport children?
No, Milou and Pluto are designed for dogs and must not be used to transport children. They do not have child seats or safety harnesses approved for passengers. Use a Hamax child bike trailer when transporting children by bicycle or on foot.

Do Hamax dog bike trailers have good ventilation?
Yes, all models have large mesh panels that provide airflow and visibility.
Always monitor the temperature and your dog’s breathing, and make sure the dog has access to water and regular breaks in warm weather.

What should I do if my dog is restless in the trailer?
Go back to an earlier step and make the training sessions shorter and easier. Do not force the dog into the trailer or start cycling until it feels comfortable while the trailer is stationary and being pushed. Reward calm behaviour, practise in a familiar place and end the session while the dog is still relaxed. A calm walk before training may help some dogs settle down.

How do I clean my Hamax dog bike trailer?
Use mild soap, water and a soft cloth, and allow the trailer to dry completely after cleaning. Do not use solvents or harsh cleaning agents. The interior can be removed for easier cleaning. Regularly remove mud, hair and moisture, and check the wheels, tyres, connections, zippers and reflectors at the same time.
